Understanding Music, for Musicians
You'll learn fundamentals of harmony, rhythm, phrasing, articulation, how to analyze simple
musical phrases and most importantly, how this knowledge can help you become a better singer or instrumentalist.
Participants may also do their own short presentations of music that's special to them. If you've ever had the feeling
that something wasn't quite right, but you weren't sure what was wrong or how to fix it, this class can help. An
ability to read music is strongly recommended.

Classical, flamenco, ragtime or finger-style guitarists of any level will receive individual help
with specific problems or pieces. Participants, together with the instructor, will select a piece or two as their class
project and develop an appropriate practice regimen. Each session, all participants will share what they've been
working on with the class as they receive individual help. The first session, participants should bring sheet music of
several things they're currently working on.
